What are YOU Thankful For?
By Avani Khaparde
Have you ever wondered why we celebrate Thanksgiving? Some people might think all of it was completely Squanto(a indian who helped the pilgrims when they arrived in America), but that’s not all of it.        Let’s go back to when the pilgrims first came to America. We’ve just arrived to America, and trying to endure the hardships that are coming our way.We are starting to get settled, and have already built a special chapel to meet for prayer. In the holy room, we set our hands up in prayer. We are thanking god for the food we have harvested. We raised a livable and sustainable crop, and we will have enough food to last us through the winter. We are glad that after months of hard work, it paid off. Afterwards, we sit down to have a feast. We thank god for our family, friends, and good fortune. The indians come and sit down to eat. We are also thankful to them for teaching us how to raise a valuable crop. Especially Squanto who helped out the most out of his tribe. We pray, we smile and we eat.
Almost 400 years later,we still do celebrate our Thanks, but with everything going on in our lives, does your family really take time to think about how hard our ancestors worked just to build the country? Does your family meet with your relatives every thanksgiving? Do you tell what you are thankful for when your family sits down to dinner. Do you say a prayer before you eat? Do you eat a turkey and cranberry sauce? Do you even celebrate Thanksgiving? Please share how you and your family celebrates Thanksgiving, in your comment. I am very thankful to you for reading my blog.

My family usually just has or goes to a party. Either way, we still get my favorite parts! (The mashed potatoes, and the pumpkin pie)

Excellent blog Avani. On Thanksgiving, we make cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, apple pie, and soup. After lunch, we watch the Superbowl and Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.

Hey Avani,
My family does not really celebrate Thanksgiving. I mean, we called our friends over and had a big lunch on Thanksgiving. My friends stayed until 6:00 pm and then left. For dinner, we didn't eat turkey or anything like that; we just ate a normal dinner. Our relatives never came over (except for once-my cousins came and stayed for a week during Thanksgiving break). So our family doesn't really celebrate Thanksgiving much at all. Anyway, you did a really good job on your blog.

On thanksgiving my family doesn't really celebrate thanksgiving. All we do is go to my cousins house for dinner. But I am still very thankful for what I have.

Hey Avani-
I like your blog, and it goes in detail about the "first" Thanksgiving ever. However, it turns out that an English explorer named Martin Frobisher came to the New World in 1578, 13 years before the Pilgrims, and celebrated his safe arrival. This started the tradition of Thanksgiving. However, the food, without a doubt, is delicious! Pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce... the list seems endless!

Avani!
Nice blog!
On thanksgiving, we usually drive to Portland, OR to meet our cousin.
Sometimes, we go to our cousin's house in Bay Area not in Portland to eat Indian dinner.
I am thankful for my family, room 24, my friends, of course myself, the school, the neighborhood, and my teachers in and out of school.
Gobbly blog Avani!
P. S. I'm thankful for our table.

Nice Post Avani, I celebrate Thanksgiving. My family and I went to a friend's house so we didn't have relatives over. We ate turkey, apple pie, ham, ice cream, salad, and the kids drank chocolate milk and the adults drank wine. We also played very fun games, and watched TV. We stayed at her house until it was 12:00 in the mourning on Friday. I was very thankful for my family and friends.
