Spring- By Lynn

Hey Everybody!!! Spring has started just some time before but I don't really feel like it is. It is so cold and wet outside and I can't even go outside to play. I get so sick of staying inside and watching the rain pour down. Last year, during spring, I had lots of fun. I used to play outside almost everyday. I would go swimming a lot of times with my neighbor. Spring is my favorite season. It can be warm and sometimes cool. I love the flowers that bloom in this season. They are so beautiful!!! I also plant some fruits and vegetables with my dad. There is also SPRING BREAK with 2 weeks of FUN!!! I sometimes go to places but most of the time, I stayat home and play with my friends. What do you do during spring? What do you want to do?? What do you like to do??? Bye!!!

Earthquake in Japan- By Leanne Loo

Earthquake in Japan

A massive 8.9-magnitude quake hit northeast Japan on Friday, causing dozens of deaths, more than 80 fires,
and a 10-meter (33-ft) tsunami along parts of the country's coastline. Homes were swept and many vehicles were
destroyed. This is what happened in Japan on the 11th of March in 2011.
The death toll is more than 9,000 people
and there are more than 13,000 people missing. The tsunami was so large that it reached Hawaii with a wave of
three feet, then reached California with a wave of 2 feet. This low wave only damaged the boats that were docked.

The tsunami damaged the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. A large amount of boiling uranium is used to generate
power. The power plant uses electricity to pump water in to the plant to cool the uranium down.
When the tsunami hit Japan, it cut out the power for the power plant. Therefore, the cooling system was not able
to operate causing the uranium to overheat. If nobody watched the reactor, the uranium would get so hot that it would
 melt through its container!
Since the reactors are getting so hot, there have been only been few explosions. Fire
fighters are trying to prevent a meltdown by spraying large amounts of water from their fire trucks and flying water
spraying helicopters around the area. There is already a bit of radiation from the explosions in California!!!

What would you do to help and what do you think about this disaster in Japan?

My Favorite Books- By Jasmine

My favorite book is Clementine because it is interesting about Clementine’s Life, how she keeps on going to the principal and not paying attention in class. It’s also very funny how Clementine cuts someone’s hair into a dandelion and coloring it with orange permanent marker. Then she cuts her own hair to help her classmate to feel better but she gets sent to the principal office for complaining that she can’t sit still on her chair. Clementine has a lot of emotions such as sad because her cat Polka Dottie died and she misses hearing her purr when she falls asleep. Clementine lives with her mom, dad, and little brother (which she calls Pea Pod). She loves fooling around like walking on stilts, make bologna glasses, and fake sleeping. This book taught me about friendship and to be kind to siblings. Do you have any favorite books? Explain.

Your Favorite Game Description- By Adam Loo

Your Favorite Game Description
Have you ever had a favorite game? My favorite game is Ratchet and Clank a Clank in Time. Ratchet and Clank a Clank in Time is a game where you are Ratchet and almost never Clank. Ratchet and Clank are best friends but they got separated by a bunch of zonis. Ratchet's worst enemy, Dr Nefarious, has captured Clank and use him for evil. Ratchet was to complete things like defeating a epic battle at a big cruse ship looking thing to fling at outer space. Ratchet goes anywhere to save his desperate friend.
Q: What favorite game do you like and describe that game.

Homework Stinks! True or False? - By Annie

Well, you might think sometimes you have too much homework, you’re too bored to do it, or you don’t like it. And maybe you think: Why do we even have homework? We have homework because homework helps us learn. If we don’t
learn, then you will become not so smart. If you have trouble doing your homework, you can ask yor parents, your teacher, or your siblings (of course not your younger sibling) to help you. You do not want to bring your homework near a dog or it may eat it.
True! Homework does stink! To much homework can make your brain think that homework is some sort of poison and makes you have phobia to homework. All you think is “homework stinks, homework stinks, homework stinks” and you don’t even pay any attention to the homework. You should always take a rest after every 30 minutes you do homework. Don’t take a long rest; only take a maximum of five minute of a rest may calm you down for doing that entire homework strait.
False! Homework also does not stink! You can’t learn anything without homework! Don’t think homework is just some sort of chore that your parents or teacher forces you to do because you’re bored. They want you to learn. Homework includes tips and strategies and exercises your brain. Your brain cannot be sleeping all day. It needs exercise just like our normal body. We have to wake up for school, right? It’s the same thing for a brain. You can’t let it sleep all day and do nothing, exercise it! It practices your knowledge so the next time you do the same kind of work, you won’t have to think, “what is this?” because you already learned and practiced it in your homework. If you have some problems doing you’re homework, here are some tips that may help you on your homework:
  • Remove distractions - Do homework in a quiet place that does not have distractions. Turn off the TV; don't expect to do homework in a room where siblings are playing.
  • Establish a routine - Set a specific "homework time" such as right after supper.
  • Require that homework should be complete before you can watch T.V, use the computer, etc.
  • Prioritize - Encourage to work first on those assignments that are due tomorrow. Then tackle the tasks that are due later. Help yourself plan your studying so that projects are not left until the last minute. An assignment book can be a big help with this.
  • Check understanding - Be sure you understand new assignments before you start working on them. This one can save lots of late-evening tears!
  • Get organized for tomorrow - Remind yourself to pack the backpack before going to bed. Even the best homework effort doesn't do much good if it's left on the kitchen table!
  • Don’t Get Rushed! – Getting rushed puts you to more pressure! Use your time wisely, but don’t be like a slow snail!
Sometimes, homework can be fun! You can get used to homework by doing much
homework at home! You can rest after every 30 minutes you do your homework, then get back to it again. Be focused and concentrate. This way, you can do homework quicker, finish homework faster, and you can get over with it!

Parades- By Joshua

A few weeks ago weeks ago, I went to the Chinese New Year Parade. I watched from Macy’s 3rd floor to avoid the rain. We were across the street from the TV cameras. During the parade, there were many fire crackers. Even though we were behind a window, we still could hear it pretty loud. According to the Chinese tradition, the loud fire crackers are used to scare away the bad luck. There were many dancing dragons to frighten the bad luck, too. The dragons are piloted by a few people holding a rod that is attached to the dragon. The people can make the dragon go up and down. The dragons are also supposed to be following a ball on a stick. 2011 is the Year of the Hare so there were some people that were hopping around in bunny costumes. I feel sorry for the bunnies since they have to walk (maybe hop) a few miles. In the parade, there were also some dancers holding fans.
I have also seen a Christmas parade several years ago. There weren’t many parade floats. I saw some people dressed up similarly like the Sugar Cubes, in boxes, but with wrapping paper on the boxes. I have also seen many Disneyland parades when I was young. There were many floats with Disney characters on them.  Have you seen any parades, on TV or in person? What special occasion was the parade for? What is your favorite parade during the year.

Video Games- By Vincent

 Video Games
Many people enjoy different video games. Now there are many games and game systems to choose from. I play the Wii, DS, and computer. Many people have a video game in their house. Kids mostly play video games on weekends. I like Wii Fit, because I can move a lot and sometimes just use the Wii remotes. The DS is getting old but there are still some good games. On the computer I like Adventure Quest Worlds because it is fun.
I got a new DS game but it was sort of boring. I also got an iPod Touch and had a few games on it. It is better than the DS. Once I had an Revolution for DS 4 and it is a game chip where you can  download games but now it is illegal. I guess the memory chip in the game chip broke so it didn't work anymore so I didn't play my DS for at least 1 year. I got a Wii last year and then I got Wii Fit Plus. It has extra activities and has more than the normal Wii Fit. Once I went to my friends house and played the Xbox Kinect Adventure. It was fun. We had to move around a lot and in the middle of the game it took pictures. Please share what kind of video game system you like and favorite game and why?

Things to Ride: Arjun Rajani

Kids these days ride a lot of things like skateboards, ripstiks, scooters, and bikes to get to places. My favorite is the RipStik . It is really hard when you first try it but once you master it, you can do tricks and swerves since the wheels are free and can turn 360 degrees unlike the skateboard and scooter.  You can take the sharpest turns and go pretty fast. The scary thing is is that both your feet are always on the RipStik, so you can’t brake on slopes but you can slow down by taking a U turn.
I got a skateboard recently and it is really cool but tough to turn and it is too slow since you have to keep pushing off the ground and the wheels can’t swivell. Scooters go fast but it is too boring now. I love riding bikes since you feel the wind blowing in your face and can go the fastest, the problem is I don’t need to go far distances so I don’t use the bike much.
The most dare-devil thing I’ve ever done was RipStik down a hiking trail. The slopes are enormous and it seems like your flying. Once five people blocked my path when I was going super fast and there was no brake, so my options were: crash into them, jump off, or crash into the patch of grass. I fell on the grass, it hurt but after a day I was okay.
What do you like to ride? Have you ever done any daredevil stunts on it? If you don’t ride anything, what would you like to ride?

Jobs- By Aaron

Have you ever wondered what you want to be when you grow up?
Well, I have. I have always wanted to have many different jobs, but my favorite one of all is to be a scientist or to be a doctor. There are many kinds of scientists and doctors. I want to be a chemist and a biologist in scientists. In doctors, I want to be a normal doctor. I want to have those jobs because they are fun and I want to know learn chemistry and biology a lot. They seem hard, but I still want to learn it. Doctors have to be good in all subjects and they have to have good grades, so I am trying very hard to get good grades. Scientists have to have good grades and they also have to have lots of knowledge in their area of work. Normally, I would have chosen a job where you could get lots of money, but I learned that it’s not just about money and it’s about the way you feel when you find a job that you think you'll like. Please tell us the job or jobs that you guys would like to have when you grow up.
