A massive 8.9-magnitude quake hit northeast Japan on Friday, causing dozens of deaths, more than 80 fires,
and a 10-meter (33-ft) tsunami along parts of the country's coastline. Homes were swept and many vehicles were
destroyed. This is what happened in Japan on the 11th of March in 2011. The death toll is more than 9,000 people
and there are more than 13,000 people missing. The tsunami was so large that it reached Hawaii with a wave of
three feet, then reached California with a wave of 2 feet. This low wave only damaged the boats that were docked.
The tsunami damaged the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. A large amount of boiling uranium is used to generate
power. The power plant uses electricity to pump water in to the plant to cool the uranium down.
When the tsunami hit Japan, it cut out the power for the power plant. Therefore, the cooling system was not able
to operate causing the uranium to overheat. If nobody watched the reactor, the uranium would get so hot that it would
melt through its container!Since the reactors are getting so hot, there have been only been few explosions. Fire
fighters are trying to prevent a meltdown by spraying large amounts of water from their fire trucks and flying water
spraying helicopters around the area. There is already a bit of radiation from the explosions in California!!!
What would you do to help and what do you think about this disaster in Japan?

I think this is the worst disaster that had ever happen. If I have to help, I would give them money. You might think it is dumb because they are dead and the shops are destroyed, but the people who survived can buy stuff from other countries by boats and other water transportation.
I feel bad for Japan, so I am making transforming ninja stars and selling them in the neighborhood for money to donate to Japan.
Hey Leanne I think that the disaster was really big and to help people are lending money to help Japan. I even think that
they are having people go out of Japan so they don't get deade more supplies are needed and people who lived in Japan are dead like geus how many people would lose their home and their stuff alot. The thing that happened in Japan would be bad I feel sad
AWWWW! :'(
That is so dreadful! :( I want to help as much as I can to help the Japanese people.
At school, we are having a collection to help Japan by giving our loose change to help.
Great Post Leanne! :D
I think this disaster was the worst in years. I feel sad for all those people without homes and people who no longer have families. I would donate a bunch of money to help.
I think it was terrible disaster because it is the biggest earthquake and tsunami that happened in Japan in 100 years. I would help by giving a lot of money to the Japan Red Cross to help the land be restored to its origanal busy state.
GREAT POST,LEANNE!
This is a very bad disaster. I think everyone should help including me. Everyone should donate about $5.00 to $20.00 dollars. It will supply them food, shelter, surgeries, medical treatment especially for people. I have heard that some companies are in Japan are still working and they already recovered from the disaster. Some companies already started such as Honada and Toyota. Most people in different states/countries/continents are praying for their relatives and family will be alright. I am praying to so Japan will look better as a continent. The most hit city was Tokyo since it was close to the hit got several injuries. So please help if you can.
Great post Leanne!
I feel REALLY bad for the whole incident in Japan. Something I did to help them, was that I donated $43 to them (23 from me, and 22 from my dad). Also, recently, I decided that I want to try to raise money for Japan. I printed out a bunch of pictures of the tragedies happening in Japan. I glued them all on a huge poster, and put a little subtitle for each one. (For example, if their is a picture of house wreckage, I would write underneath, The tsunami hit Japan, and washed away many houses.) I titled the poster, "Disaster in Japan". I want to take that poster and walk around in my neighborhood, asking if people could donate, just a little bit to help Japan. I made the poster, but I haven't started walking to people's houses yet. I want to do it really soon!
The earthquake was an unfortunate event to the victims in Japan. On a freezing day, I stood in front of Marina Market collecting money so we could give it to Japan. Putting a bottle in the classroom is a way to collect money in normal life. Using oragami to sell is a fun way to raise money. Some people say work is more important than fun. I think having fun is more important than work. My chinese school's staff go to disaster areas. The amount they provided are about 5 tons of beans, 10 tons of rice, and 2 tons of blankets.
Nice post Leanne!!!!!!
I have heard that this is one of the worst disasters in the last 100 years! I think this is also the 3rd worst disaster besides the A-bombs in World War 2. So far in my neighborhood we have raised more than $300 for relief funds. I think this may actually take a toll on the world too since Japan is one of the most advanced country in electronics. I have also heard from some people there is going to be another really powerful earthquake in Japan. So the US and the Japanese Navy are going to try and use the navy ships to block the so called on coming wave from hitting the badly damaged Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant.
Awsome post Leanne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Technically, there has no radiation to reach there US. Therefore, the radiation that reach the US was less than the natural amount of radiation in the US. I feel very sorry for the people in Japan since they technically, lost every thing.
I felt really bad for all those people in Japan because now since the radiation is in Japan, people don't want to go and eat sushi and raw fish or anything like that. A lot of people died and I feel really sad for them. I hope the radiation doesn't come here! If it does come here, maybe I'll just stay inside my house or the school if possible. I will also try to donate as much money as possible.
Nice Post Leanne!
Hey Leanne! :D OMG! So sad! :'( I think the best way to help Japan is to donate lots and lots and lots of money. We have the Red Cross Program in school and I think everyone should donate money! It is the cool thing to do! :D
Nice post Leanne! :D
NICE POST LEANNE!!!
It has been few weeks since a massive earthquake struck Japan. It happened at 2:46 PM on March 11. It was the strongest earthquake in Japan and 4th strongest in the last 100 years. The tsunami was caused by the earthquake. Destruction was unimaginable and didn’t stop happening.
The tsunami was as tall as building with three stories. Thousands of people are missing. Japan is also faces a nuclear threat. The earthquake and tsunami caused serious damage at a power plant. Tragedy struck Japan.
I would give more money to put in our coin drive can.
The disaster is actually on the list of top twenty disasters. There has been many disasters, but I think this is one of the worst. We should donate money to help the homeless. :(
I thought the earthquake was 9.0. Nice post Leanne!
