Science Fair
By:Arjun
We all know that the world is now facing an energy crisis and everyone is trying to do something about that. Now electrical energy or electricity can be made from air and saltwater. After all, both the air and the saltwater are freely available everywhere.
Procedure: Set up a regular circuit with an electromagnet (iron core wrapped in a coil by a wire), switch, and battery. Replace the battery with a bowl of saltwater  and keep the ends of the wires which used to be on the battery hanging  above the salt water. See how many washers the electromagnet can pick. Once again replace the saltwater with the battery. See how many washers it can pick. COMPARE.
The concept is really confusing though later you get the hang of it. The same way that you burn wood and make heat energy, you should be able to burn metals and get electricity (or electrical energy). The difference is that you are not really burning instead, you are producing a condition for oxidization which by itself is the same as slow burning. If with one cup of salt water and some metals If I  could light up a small light bulb, maybe you can light up a entire building by a tank of salt water and a few hundred pounds of scrap metal. What did you write for your science topic? Why did you choose it?

Java
By: Dyson

Hi guys! Do you know about Java (not the coffee beans)? If not, I can explain. Java is a programming language developed by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems. Java is typically complied to byte code (class file) and is currently the most popular programming language. The project initiated in June 1991, and released Java 1.0 in 1995. The name changed from Oak to Green and finally to Java. Sun Microsystems promised for Java, “Write Once, Run Anywhere” or WORA. Java2 was released initially as J2SE 1.2 in December 1998-1999. There is also J2EE (enterprise application) and J2ME (mobile applications). Sun Microsystems renamed new J2 versions as Java EE, Java ME, and Java SE. Recently in 2009-2010, Oracle Corporation acquired Sun Microsystems.

Java derives much of its syntax from C and C++. Java is used to make programs like games, websites and hyperlinks. You can use Java to program the computer and make it listen to every command you type.

What is your favorite programming system (like Scratch or Alice)? Please describe.

April Fools Day  By Abhinav N.

Hi Room 24! I'm sure all of you enjoyed the one day in the year where you could actually prank others, April fools day. April fools day, also referred to as all fools day, has many origins. One explanation states that it was celebrated by the people who celebrated New Years Day on Jan. 1st. They would fool the others who celebrated New Years Day on other days. Another explanation states that it originated as April Fish day where people would try to stick a fish on someone without them noticing. The Flemish tradition is for the children to lock out their parents or teachers until they promise some treats. In other places they would ask some people to do a favor and send a message to someone. The person who received the note would again ask the sender to deliver a note to another person and it keeps on going until that sender figures out that it was all a trick. There are many ways to trick others. It was really funny the way Ms. Regosin fooled all of us. I personally enjoy April fools day and use it as an opportunity to trick others into getting worried. Do you like playing tricks on others? Have you played any one trick in particular that was clever or did you get fooled by someone? Please share!
