Fun and Only
by Annie Pan
On a Saturday morning, I sprung from my bed, excited. When I arrived at
our school, I was ready with my flute clutched tight under my hands.
Ready for the competition at Great America.
I was grouped with my friends, Jessica and Jasmine, with Jessica’s dad
in charge. When we arrived, it didn’t look anything like Great America.
It was old and torn and it looked more like a school. I soon figured out
we’re going to Santa Teresa High School for the competition. We
practiced G-Force and Shockwave and was ready to go. Our band was small,
but we had confidence. After the competition, our director said we
probably got first place. I was time to leave to Great America.
We raced to the entrance with our tickets while music was pounding in
our ears. My friends were frightened to go on any ride, so we had to
start with Celebration Swings. It was just like swings, except it lifts
higher with you orbiting in a circle. I put my hands in the air as the
gentle breeze past by. After a while, it was fun. Now, my friends were
eager to go on the other rides.
We
headed towards Psycho Mouse, a roller coaster. It took about 20
minutes to wait in the line. Step after step, it was finally our turn.
Jasmine sat with Jessica in the back while I sat in the front. My teeth
were gritted while the announcer said, “Enjoy your ride!” There was a
thump. The cart gradually went higher. Then, a slight turn, and it
started. I put my hands up while my other friends were saying, “Help!”
and “Yikes! Wait, it’s actually not that bad!” Then the ride was over.
What fun! I promised Jasmine that we would go to Orbit, a fun, yet dizzy
ride.
On
the way, we saw this ride called Delirium. I was always scared the past
few years I came to go on it, but the more I was scared, the more I
wanted to go on it. Jessica was too scared to go. Jasmine and I held
hands in the beginning. Sweat was dripping from my cheeks. The ride
begun. It wasn’t scary at all. I put my hands in the air. The ride was
over.
After
a few rides, we decided to go on Rip Roaring Rapids. We sat down on
this huge tire-like boat and drifted towards the roaring rapids. “Ha!” I
laughed at my friend. “Your back is faced to the waves, you’re gonna
get soaked!” Right when I finished my sentence, the boat turned. Splash!
I was completely soaked. At the end, I turned out to be the one that
was least drenched.
After
all those rides, it was time to go the the Showtime Theatre to see what
places we get. The middle schoolers received their prize. “And
finally,” they announced. And we waited. Wow! Get what place we got?
Last!

It must be fun. I never been on any of the ride except the Rip Roaring Rapid. It was fun.
Wow! Nice post. I thought your group would get 1st - 5th place in the concert because you play the flute so well.
Is Great America fun? I've never been there, so I have no idea. Is your bed really that springy?! Wow!! It must be hard to sleep at night.

Hi Annie,
Wow I am surprised you got last. I thought that when I heard G-Force and Shockwave if I was the judge I would give you guys first. Nice blog.

Sounds like a fantastic trip! I have been to Great America before but I haven't been there for a long time except when there was a light show. It was exciting! On the rides you went you must had a lot of fun! My mother said I didn't enjoy the rides in Great America when I was there.
When you did the competition, where you nervous at all? If I was you I would have freaked out like crazy! Great blog Pancakes!
That sounds like fun. Wish I could have been there to listen to the music!

P.S., great post.
ksk;l
Great Post Annie!!! I understand how you feel. Sometimes judges are unfair. I used to play soccer and I had a ball kicked and it was unintentional. The Referee said I stuck my hand at the ball. It is still lucky you got to go to Great America. Thanks a lot Annie!!
Hey Annie. Great America was really fun. I was so nervous when we performed to the judge. Delirum looked scary but wasn't that scary. We were the only elemantary school kids on the ride. It was too bad Jessica was too scared to go. Orbit was cool it didn't feel like we were upside down. Wile you were on Demon, me and Jess were on Berseker 5 times. The carousel swings were the first ride we went on. Putting your hands up was really fun. Rip roaring rapids got me really wet. Peanut's pirate was okay. I really liked phsyco mouse We were lucky Jessica's dad bought us popcorn. SO SALTY! It was sad that we got last place. All in all, you made my time in Great America fun!
Annie,
I can tell you had a lot of fun. On the Rapids ride, who got wettest? I would never be able to work up nerve to go on some of the rides there. This reminded me of when I went to Universal Studios, all the rides and everything. There was a really creepy roller coaster that took you up at, like, a 90 degree angle and brought you right back down. Nobody I knew went on it. There were also two that got you really soaked, but I only went on one of them.
Annie-
That must be fun for you to do all of that while waiting for the announcers to say who won. What you said at the end was hillarious. Nice post Annie.
Dear Annie,
First of all,I have to say sorry for you to come last and second of all you are lucky to go to Great America! The last time I went was when I was 4 years old. After that I never got a chance to go but I might get a chance to go during summer. If I'm going I would want to go to Flight Deck.I bet you worked really hard on trying to get first.
I remember the time the band went to great america. Our group went to rip roaring rapids. We were SOAKING when we went off. Then we had to go to the Showtime Theater wet. When I tried plinko. Plinko is supposedly hard but I won on the first time.
=P
I am AWESOME!!!
Dear Annie,
The Great America part sounded fun. Especially the Rip Roaring Rapids part. Great America sounded fun. I want to go there some time. I don't know if I have ever been there. Maybe when I was very small.
Sincerely,
Yvonne Li

I've never been to Great America except for the time we saw some fireworks. From where we were sitting we could see the ride that goes up slowly, and comes down super fast. We didn't do any rides, but it looked like a lot of fun. I still had fun anyways. Your time there sounded like a lot of fun!

Hey Annie-
Great story! You've become an excellent writer. You must have had an awesome fifth grade teacher (: I've never been to Great America. I grew up near Disneyland and went almost every year. My sons don't like roller coasters. Not sure why, I love them! So glad that you and the girls had such a fun day together! Why the title, "Fun and Only?"
