Northern Lights
by Aishwarya
Hi Room 24! Have you ever read about colorful skies in the night? They are called the ‘Northern lights’ or ‘Aurora Borealis’. They are natural lights in the sky during long dark periods of time near the equinoxes.
Northern Lights as the name suggests happen in the Polar Regions. They are caused due to charged solar wind particles collision with oxygen and nitrogen in the earth’s ionosphere in the presence of strong magnetic field at North Pole. They are typically red or green but sometimes are blue. I  t was discovered that Jupiter and Saturn also had Auroras. In Antarctica there are southern lights and they are called Aurora Australis. Next time you plan to visit Europe, Go to Norway to see the Northern Lights !
Can you share a natural wonder of the world?

Cool blog, Aishwarya. I have heard of those lights before and have also seen them on T.V. They look pretty cool. Sadly, I have never seen them in real life. I also have not seen any other natural wonders of the world, though I wish I could someday. That would be really cool.

Since the northern lights occur before dawn, they are called "aurora" because aurora means dawn. Oxygen and nitrogen together form HNO3, or
O=N-H. O has a double bond with N, and N has a single bond with H. Northern lights are not blue, but actually teal-like. Nice post Aishwarya!

Yes, I do know about the Aurora Borealis. My best friend told me that when I was in 2nd grade. It surprised me. At first I never believed it until I heard it again.

Nice post Aishwarya! One of the natural wonders of the world is Victoria Falls. It was named in honor of Queen Victoria and founded by David Livingstone in 1855. It is located on Zimbezi River, which creates a border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The people who live there call it "mosi-oa-tunya" which means "smoke that thunders."

This natural happening is really cool. I never knew that there were also auroras on Jupiter and Saturn. another natural wonder are eclipses. That happens when the moon's rotation interferes with the sun's reflection of light to the earth and the whole day it is dark outside.
GREAT POST, AISHWARYA!!!!

I once saw lightning in a storm in which my sisters cried but I didn't and it was awesome!

I remember seeing these Northern Lights on T.V. before and I want to see them up close. I think it is really cool that our world has things like this. I'm sure that if there were aliens out there that they would be jealous of all our awesomeness. Then they would want to come to our world. I'm going to ask my mom if we can go to Norway in the summer! not. But when I grow up I will go to Norway and experience those wonders for myself.

A natrual wonder of the world is the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. The reef can be seen from outer space. Many kinds of fish live there. An oil spill can ruin some of the coral. There is also a lot of tourism. It is a favored place because of the scenic views.

The northern lights are really cool. I watched this documentary about them once and just like you stated, the northern lights are caused by the solar particles colliding withe earths atmosphere. I never got to saw them, but I really want to. Speaking of the other wonders, I have not seen any, but wish to greatly. I hope I get the chance one day.

Nice post Aishwarya!

I have never seen Norther lights before, but I think i have heard about them on T.V. They seem really cool and fascinate me. Once my friend told me about how when he was camping he suddenly saw a bright blue light in the sky. At first I didn't believe him becasue it didn't seem real, but maybe he was tellling the truth and actually saw the Northern lights. Awesome post Aishwarya!

I have heard so much about these "Aurora Borealis"! They seem really cool! I have never seen one before, but I really want to. I have seen lightning and thunder before, but not many nature "wonders".

Those lights look really cool! I didn't see one before in my whole life! I wish I could. If I was at a place and the nothern lights appeared, I would be extremely excited and I would take a picture of it. It would be so cool if it did happen. I wish I could see one of those lights so that I could see what the colors are. I hope it

Nice Post Aishwarya!

I like the auroras because they look cool. From outer space, it looks like a circle on top of the earth.
