Halloween
By Abhinav Naikawadi
Hi Room 24! How many of you are going trick or treating this Halloween? I sure am. Do you know the history of Halloween? Halloween originated over 2000 years ago. It was first a Celtic holiday called Samhain (Sah-ween) in Ireland, celebrated on October 31st, the last day of the Celtic calendar. On this day when the dead can return to the earth, ancient Celts would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off these roaming ghosts. They believed the souls of the dead roamed the streets and villages at night. So, treats were left to pacify the evil and make sure next year crops would be surplus. This tradition evolved into trick-or-treating. Later the Romans had a similar holiday called Pagan to honor the dead. Then the Catholics named this festival “All Hallows Eve”, which later got renamed “Halloween” for short.
Over time, Halloween started to get less and less religious and more of a fun sort of festival. It is a time of joy, fun, variety of costumes for all ages, some are spooky and others slightly funny. There are pumpkin patches, parades, parties, and my personal favorite, trick-or-treating. One really important part of Halloween is the candy or chocolates. Hmmm…Yummy! It is probably one of kid’s favorite parts of Halloween. A famous symbol of Halloween is a pumpkin, which is carved with a demon face to scare away evil spirits. These carved pumpkins are called jack-o-lanterns. Often there is a candle placed inside to brighten it up. Many people also put up spooky decor such as gravestones, coffins, fake monsters, etc. What do you like best about Halloween? What are you going to be for Halloween? Have you put any decor up and if so what? Anyways, Happy Halloween!!!!

What I like best about Halloween is trick or treating because of the candy YUM! My parents don't believe in Halloween but if I went I would maybe dress up as a fairy. No I don't have any decoration for Halloween but if I could I would I would get maybe pumpkins on the ground, fake spider webs on the roof and stick paper bats on the spider webs.
The best part I like about Halloween is going trick-or-treating. Most of the time, I get around 50 to 100 pieces of candy. On Halloween, I don't have a costume so I pretend I am "a human disguised alien bent on human conquest." My mom doesn't buy any kinds of decor because she thinks they are a waste of money
What I like the best about Halloween is getting candy. This is the time when you get free candy that could last for at least a month and the candy you get at the stores run out so quickly because you have to share it. I am going to be a Devil or a Witch. I think I will mostly be a Witch. I haven't put any decoration up because I have 5 more days to do it. Also, you could finish decorating in at least 1 hour or 2. I am planning to make fake ghosts and hang them up, and also I am going to make webs and put spiders on them. I can't wait till Halloween comes!
I have not celebrated Halloween yet. I will celebrate Halloween on Halloween. I will go to a church and go to the Hallelujah party. There is a lot of candy there. I am not going to be anything for Halloween. I might only wear the fake vampire teeth. I could wear the scientist glasses if I could still find it. Last year there was a wheel for candy. Me and my friends kept on spinning for the Fun Dip candy. Then they took it away.
I have already put up some decorations. So far we have carved three pumpkins. My favorite one is the one with a bewitched buck teeth smile. I am also looking forward to being able to trick or treat. I am going to be a Clone Trooper.(just like last year) We are going to be giving out Tootsie Rolls. (my favorite) Last year I got TWO Traders Joe bags full up to the top!! So this year I hope to fill a total of two and a half bags!
Great post Abhinav!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Halloween, and yeah I am going trick-or-treating. I never heard about the history of Halloween, by the way, nice post!
THe best part of Halloween is Trick-or-Treating because I like getting lots of candy! THe bad thing is I can't eat candy because of my braces but, I still eat it anyway! :) I might be able to go to go treat-or-treating if we come back on time from my brothers soccer game. We are going to put up a pumpkin and halloween lights. We might also put up some spiders and cobweb. I still don't know what I am going to be for Halloween. Maybe a witch, a devil, a vampire, or a cheerleader. Last year my brother and I filled a bucket from trick-or-treat. My brother got most of the candy BUT he hates chocolate!
Fantastic post Abhinav! :)
I would like to go to trick-or-treating but my religion does not allow it. If I could trick-or-treat, I'd be a wizard of G.I. Joe which is a army guy.
What I like best about Halloween is trick-or-treating. I get a lot of candy because, well, there's a lot of houses to visit. This year I am going to go with my friends out for trick-or-treating at my friend Owen's house. We will have potluck and pizza for Halloween. Since we are going out, we will not have any decor. For Halloween, I am going to be a soldier.
Just like most other kids my favourite part of Halloween is trick-or-treating. It is so fun and so yummy! :) I always end up with SO much candy, that it lasts for most of the year! And, every year after trick-or-treating, we have a big party. That's is a super fun thing, because that's the time me and all of my other friends trade our candy. What we do, is that we dump our candy in separate piles. Then, we make offers to others, on what candy they want to take and what candy they want to give away. Overall, we don't really decorate our house for Halloween.
The best thing I like about halloween is that we can go out getting treats. For halloween I was a ninja. I didn't buy a ninja costume at a store. I used my own clothes to make a ninja costume. This is how you make it. First, you need a black cloth, black pant, and another black cloth. First, you wear your cloth and pant. Then, take your other black cloth and wear it. If it has a picture on it, you turn it inside - out. You first take the bottom of the head hole and use it to cover your nose. Then, you use the top of the head hole to cover your hair (above your eyes). Then use the hand sleeves to tighten it. You can also wear a glove, black shoe, or a black belt. Then, Presto!!! You have a ninja costume.
The part I like about Halloween is the dressing up part and the trick-or-treating. This year, I am going to dress up as a lot of combinations. I am going to be a cheerleader/ladybug/princess(I just saw that costume in the house and decides to wear it)/witch and finally, I am just going to wear a cape I have. I like to go trick-or-treating with my friends. It's no fun going alone. When we are done trick-or-treating, we trade each other candies since we don't like all of them. I don't even decorate the house but my mom buys a pumpkin and my mom and I make pumkin pie!!! YUM!!!!!
Great Post Abhinav!!!
My favorite part about Halloween is trick or treating! I get so much candy and it is awesome!! In our religion, they don't really allow us to do Halloween because it's main purpose is to scare away evil spirits and we don't do that. I don't have any decoration for Halloween. I might just go to a haunted house this year!! Hehe! :D
Nice post Abhinav! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! :D
what i like about halloween is trick or treating because of all of the candy you get and sometimes you can go to halloween parties and play fun games this year I'm going to be minnie mouse the only decoration I have are pumpkins.
I like Halloween because I get a lot of candy, and I love CANDY!!! I don't buy decors because it takes a lot of time to fix up unless it's simple. I usually get 130-160 pieces of candy and i hit at least 90-100 houses. Some houses give three or four candies. I am going to be as Grim Reaper
What I like best about Halloween is going trick-or-treating. I really enjoy getting candy and chocolate. My sister and I still haven't finished our candy from last year. I am going to be a traffic light. I got to carve my own pumpkin and I did it all by myself. We put up a skeleton and a lot of other decorations. I never knew why people celebrated Halloween. I kind of want to stay home and scare all the kids that come to our house, but then I won't get to go trick-or-treating. I was thinking of doing a little bit of each. We have this awesome smoke machine so when we open the door it's smokey like right after a fire.
There are many things I like about Halloween like getting free candy, carving jack o lanterns, dressing up, and best of all....... scaring my sisters! ( Halloween is the only day that my parents allow me to REALLY scare them. I scare them alot even though it's not Halloween but they don't scream. So on Halloween they scream alot!)This year, I'm wearing a cape and a hat that my mom and my grandma made. I'm going to be a witch!
The only bad thing about Halloween is that I have to eat my dinner quickly so I won't be able to appreciate the taste.
The best part of Holloween is that you can get free candy (my parents don't buy any the rest of the year)I am going to be a witch this year.My sister got this adorable snow princess cotume. We put up one glow in the dark ghost, two artificial pumpkins, one glow in the dark pumpkin, two toy witches, one black rose,a pumpkin cutout on our door, and pumpkin lights. The types of candy we are giving out are kit-kat, almondjoy, reese's,skittles, and hershey's. So HAPPY HOLLOWEEN (nice post by the way)
I havn't celebrated Halloween yet either. Though I will go to church for this kind of Halloween party. The best part is that we will enter the maze room where the room is dark and you try to get through the maze with a glow stick. It's very tricky. I have decorated my house with the paper crafts I made at class. I will go tricker-treating with my cousin and her friends. We are all going to be highlighters. I'm a green one even though I like blue better. I heard that Mrs. Luba (who lives on the corner of the street behind the San Jose library which is across Calabazas Park) for Halloween she is giving out SILLYBANDZ for Halloween! I like the candy. But don't eat too much! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!
Well, the best part of Halloween is all of the trick or treating. When I do trick or treating I usually get 500- 100 candies. I am going to be a chef because people don't really do that and my costume is very comfortable especially my apron. My mom puts a pumpkin as a picture on the window. But I am very pleased that halloween is here. When my family comes back for halloween we count the candy. We also see how many candies we like and dislike. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!
I don't celebrate Halloween. But I will still get a lot of candies. Instead of going trick or treating, I will go to a Harvest Fun Festival. There are a lot of games. If you win, they will give you candies. In my opinion, that is easier than going around asking for candies. Since trick or treating is quite late, it is dark. Cars might not see you as well. My church does not recommend us celebrating Halloween because of all the ghosts and scary stuff. Therefore, the church provides the Fun Festival and lots of candies for the kids instead. If I put up any decorations, it might just be a pumpkin.
What I like best about Halloween is that you get candy and going to people's houses to say "trick-or-treat!" My costume is going to be Minnie Mouse. I don't really decorate because I usually don't really have time to decorate for Halloween because that is when my family is busy. I decorate for Christmas though. If I could decorate for Halloween, I would put fake big pumpkins outside on the steps.
Hi Abhinav,
Halloween is a holiday celebrated on October 31, primarily in the United States, Canada, Ireland, and England. Halloween can also be called as All Saints'Eve or All Hallows'Eve. Some activities include trick-or-treating, wearing costumes, attending parades and parties, and carving jack-o'-lanterns. For Halloween, I have bought a costume of an Egyptian princess named Cleopatra. At home for decor, I am carving a jack- o'- lantern this year.
I'm not sure what I am going to do for Halloween. What I do know is that we are not going trick or treating. We do not have decorations because we don't go shopping for them. I am not sure if we are giving candy either. I guess I have to wait until Halloween to find out what will happen.
Nice blog post Abhinav!
I can't wait till Halloween this year! The candy, the decorations, and costumes are awsome.Last year I was a pirate but this year I am going to be a ninja. There is always a Haunted house I go to every year which always is really scarey and this year the theme is Alice in Boneland. I love the candy and every year we put up decorations and once someone told us our decorations were the best in the apartment!
My favorite thing about Halloween is collect candy. I am going to be dressed as a werewolf. It is going to be really scary for most kids. The decorations i am going to put up are a skeleton,Jack- o- lantern, a spider web,a a plastic rat,and a rubber snake.last year i got approximately 150 pieces of candy.
