Endangered Animals
By: Sohan
Have you ever thought about all the different types of pollution we are
making? Because of all this pollution, there are many animals in the
world that are critically endangered. Three of these critically
endangered species are the Leatherback Turtle, the Sumatran Elephant,
and the Cross River Gorilla.
The
Leatherback Turtle has been around for 100 million years, but is now
facing extinction. There may as little as 2,300 adult leatherback
turtles in all of the world’s oceans together. Leatherback turtles can
be up to 6 feet long. They can weigh up to 500 pounds and have white
spots on their dark colored shell. Leatherback turtles are the world’s
largest sea turtles. The main reasons for the leatherback turtles dying
out are: habitat loss, wildlife trade (poaching), climate change, and
pollution. Leatherback turtles are being forced to adapt to new
conditions because of pollution and other reasons. Some turtles cannot
cope with these new conditions, so they die. Others are poached for
their eggs and meat.
There are only about 2000 Sumatran elephants in the world. These
elephants are found mainly on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Their
numbers are diminishing mainly because of deforestation for palm oil
plantations. They have already lost 80% of their natural habitat. There
is also the problem of poachers. The male elephants have tusks, but the
females rarely do. Poachers hunt these elephants for their ivory tusks.
These elephants are herbivores (which means that they eat only plants),
so the deforestation is affecting them. These elephants are usually very
strong, so they have only one main predator, the Sumatran tiger.
Cross River Gorillas have been very
hard for scientists to study until the last decade. These gorillas stay
away from humans and live in rugged areas. There are only about 300 of
these gorillas and they are spread out into about 11 different groups.
There habitat is about 3000 square miles big and it is spread out over
the African countries Cameroon and Nigeria. That might seem like a lot,
but it is only the size of two Rhode Islands side by side. The main
cause of such a small population is poachers. Humans are also clearing
their habitat for fields for agriculture. The loss of even a few of
these gorillas would be disastrous with such a small population.
All of these animals are critically endangered. It
would be great if these small populations could grow back into what they
were. To help with this, some zoos keep some of these endangered
species to make sure they are not deliberately killed. Do you support
this or are you against this? What can people do to save some of these
species? Please respond in your comment. And remember, anybody can make a
difference to help save these species.

Great Blog!
I also think that endangered animals should not be endangered.I feel sad thinking about the thought of animals being endangered.
Sohan,
I loved your blog. It was very informational and your blog taught me two other endangered species. I do not know my answer for your question because the animals are supposed to be free but they can't be killed. But the main point was to say that we can save endangered species and that is what matters the most in my opinion. - ARYA SINHA
Sohan,
Amazing blog! I totally agree that we should help save these animals. People can stop killing them and stop destroying habitats. Not just these animals but all animals.
Amazing blog Sohan! I think some endangered animals should be kept in cages in case that species of animals become extinct in the wild, the animal can still breed in the zoo. People should designate special areas for endangered animals to thrive again in protected areas under human supervision. Otters, bears, fish, scorpions, tigers, wolves, pandas, birds and many other animals are endangered. People can and should protect endangered animals on the verge of extinction. Awesome blog Sohan. =)=)
Nice blog Sohan!
I like the fact that zoos are taking in those endangered Species because then they can reproduce and when the animals have a high enough population, free. Therefore, they will not be endangered any more.
I never knew there were that less sea turtles! I think humans shoulda make reservations to keep these animals safe.
Great blog! I want to save them but I don't know how. Anyway, great blog!

Nice blog! I want to save them. Great blog!
sohan,
Awesome Blog!!
Your blog tied in to the wildlife assembly well. Endangered animals are problematic and humans are not doing much to protect that.
Once again,
Awesome blog!!
The endangered species are fighting to keep surviving. We're also trying to conserve the creatures who are posed at risk, and their future remains in doubt.
Hey Sohan;epic blog! To answer your question, I am on the saving-animals side. It would be terrible if humans went extinct and those 3 types of endangered animals must feel the same way. To prevent pollution, we can have less oil spills, and travel in bikes, skateboards, etc. Once again,EPIC BLOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sohan, awesome blog! I support the idea of helping endangered animals so we can have many different species of animals here with us on Earth. Animals and humans are some of the most important "matters" on Earth. We need to take care of these endangered species. I think people can help save endangered species by not wasting paper and trees because trees are their natural habitats. Once again, awesome blog!!! :D
Heh, we can poop less! And yeah. :( pooh me!
Wow! Sohan nice blog. It was interesting. I am surprised that many animals are getting killed for things that people don't really need such as the ivory tusks. I was amazed!
We should stop dumping trash into the ocean. In other words, I support that we should protect the seas.
Awesome blog! I never knew so many animals were endangered! I read that their are only 1,400 pandas left in the whole entire world! Anyways, great blog!
I like your blog. It is so sad to see the animals to extinct. I would by saving trees and not waste food so then people don't need to grow farms and they don't have to cut down so much trees.
Good job Sohan. I agree that we should help the animals find homes in the zoos. People can make harsher laws so poachers won't dare to touch the animals
Good job, Sohan! I never heard about the Leatherback Turtles! Great vocabulary!
Sohan-
Phenomenal Blog! I too, am a lover of animals, and when it comes to the situation that animals are endangered because of poachers and deforestation, I get very upset, concerned and frustrated. After all, even my name means Earth. I support the idea of taking some out of the wild to save them, but naturally I would rather have them out in the wild, in their natural habitat. People could stop buying products, such as meat and ivory from unpopular shops which proves that they are poachers. Stellar blog!
the cross river gorila sure sound endangered. anyways, nice blog
Wow I would not like to be those animals and I think being a scientist would really help the animals
Wow I would not like to be those animals and I think being a scientist would really help the animals
GREAT BLOG, SOHAN!
I LIKED YOUR SERIOUS VOICE IN THIS PIECE OF WRITING. TO HELP STOP THE POPULATION OF ENDANGERED ANIMALS FROM GROWING, I THINK THAT WE SHOULD REUSE MORE OFTEN. SUCH AS, WHEN YOU GO TO A GROCERY STORE, ALWAYS TAKE ONE OF YOUR OWN REUSABLE BAGS SO THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE THEIR PLASTIC BAGS. ALSO, IF YOU SPOT ANY BAGS FLOATING AROUND, MAKE SURE YOU PICK IT UP, SO THAT IT WON'T CAUSE MORE POLLUTION THAN THERE ALREADY IS.
AWESOME BLOG, SOHAN!
Dear Sohan,
Great blog!
I like the way you used a lot of meaningful words in this piece of writing. To stop the population of endangered animals from growing, I think a good solution to that issue is to stop pollution from ruining our community. We could walk, bike, or jog to school or a park as much as possible. We could also ALWAYS bring our own reusable bag just used for shopping instead of using their plastic bags. If you see a bag floating around, always pick it up so you won't cause more pollution.
AWESOME BLOG, SOHAN!
Nice blog Sohan!
I liked your word choice
To answer your question, I was not that much wondering about endangered species
Cool blog!
Nice Blog Sohan!
I never knew so much about endangered animals! I support that zoos are keeping some endangered species to make sure they are not deliberately killed. I support it because if all that species of endangered animal dies and plays a big roll in the world we might suffer. I don't want to suffer so I support that zoos and keeping endangered animals so they don't get deliberately killed, but anyway Awesome blog Sohan! Really enjoyed it!
