Chinese New Year- By Eric Wu

Hi everybody! Did you guys know that Chinese New Year was last
Thursday? On Chinese New Year, my family likes to celebrate it by eating
a Chinese dish called a “hotpot”. Some of you might know what it is. My
mom makes it by making a giant pot of soup. Then, she puts a bunch of
random foods that we like. It tastes delicious. After dinner, our mom then
gives us a “red pocket”. Many of you know what they are. You put money
into them and then give it to someone. I don’t who invented it, but I would
like to shake hands with the person who came up with the idea. Do you
celebrate Chinese New Year? If so, what do you do to celebrate? Please
share!

I celebrated just like you! Well, almost. I also ate hotpot, but I ate with family and friends. After that, the adults give each child a red pocket filled with money. I got eighty dollars that day! Then we watch this chinese program that they put on just for Chinese New year. It was performed live, which made it cool. Nice post!

Yes, I do celebrate Chinese New Year. I celebrate it by eating hotpot and giving people red pocket. My dad's mom gave me a 20 dollar bill, but my mom took it away because we got in a argue about a toy. Then I got 1 dollar at my chinese school. Then I got another 1 dollar at my friends house for guessing a riddle correct. It was super fun. That is why I like chinese new year.

Last Saturday, I had a party with my friends and family. It was tons of fun. I couldn't stay up very late because I had this chinese school dance thing. Eric had it too. I also had a cello recital on Sunday.
My friends and I played video games for a while and then we played with cards and we played Blokus. It is a game where you put as many pieces as you can on a game board and the pieces can only be touching the corners. It was a lot of fun. In cards, we played this chinese game called big two. It is lots of fun and the two of spades is the largest card in the game. You want to get rid of all your cards first to win. My cello recital was cool. It was my fourth time doing it. It was still somehow made me nervous. I almost started too late, but I played pretty well. I played better during the rehearsal. I met Jeffery Chiu there. He was from Portal last year. I also met a lot of my other friends there. For the chinese school thing, we had to get there at 9:20 a.m. so I woke up at around 7:30ish. For me 7:30 isn't very early. I usually wake up at 6:00, but since I got contacts. It has been pretty annoying trying to put them on and take them off. My left contact is blue and my right one is green. The contacts help me see very well.

I celebrate Chinese New Year too! I ate hotpot and my parents gave a red envelope to each to my brother and I. My brother and I each got $100! I like Chinese New Year because of the Chinese candy some people give you and the money. We heard some firecrackers outside of my house. I couldn't really hear it because it wasn't that close to my house. I wonder what I will celebrate next!

Nice Post Eric!

Hi Eric! I celebrate Eid, a Muslim holiday! It is really fun to celebrate it because you get to meet your friends and you get to spend sometime with them! Last year, I went to the mousque (a place where Muslims worship our god, Allah(SWT) and we did our prayers there. When it is Eid, Muslims pray in a special way! After that, we had a HUGE gathering in which there were doughnuts, sweets, and MUCH MORE!!! Nice blog Eric!

Yes, I celebrate Chinese New Year. This year, we went to a restaurant with my grandparents, uncle, aunt, and cousins. My grandparents, aunt, and uncle all gave me red envelopes. After that, all the kids played Uno together. I lost one game and came in second for another. Then, I read books. After that, we had to go home. Before the Chinese New Year ended, we had a New Year's Eve dinner. It is a Chinese custom to have dinners before and after Chinese New Year.

I celebrated Chinese New Year by hanging out with my friends. We played iPad on Saturday for a really long time. On Friday we had a party at my after school. we watched this Chinese movie called "Treasure Donkey". I think the movie is funny because this very smart guy named Afanti tricked a greedy person into thinking that his donkey could poo out a gold coin. Since the greedy person needed ten thousand gold coins to marry the daughter of a very rich person, he took the donkey to her and made it poo. It first pooed a gold coin, then poo, then more poo, and so on. We also got red pockets. Happy New Year everyone!

I celebrate chinese new year. I really like when I get a red envelope with money inside. This year my dad gave me $45 and my chinese teacher gave me $1. My mom swept the house clean to make all the bad luck go outside. My mom prepared a nice meal and my dad gave me some candy.

I had a hotpot also and like Angeline, I watched this TV show and I recieved red envelopes. All I did for this year is go to my aunt's house, eat hotpot, watch TV, and finish. Then I went to this place where real people did stuff like kung fu and mini drama stuff and singing. I was there live and people were videocamming straight to the TV and once my sister screamed "We are on TV people!" and everybody stared at me and my family so it was one of the most embarrasing moments in my life! But in the seven previous years, I wnet to my friends house, play tons of Wii games and games while the adults eat and watch TV, have this guy named Jerry and his sister and my friends and sisters perform this ULTRA funny show. Then we would watch this TV program while the adults go in this room and split up their many so approximately every kid recieves $300. Then I would go back home at 1:00 A.M.

Nice post Eric!!!!!!! Hindu New Year is celebrated according to the Hindu Lunar Calendar. It starts on the first day of the month Chaitra. It is believed that this system started from the day of coronation of King Vikramaditya. The popular name of the Hindu New Year is Vikram Samvat. April 4, 2011 is the North Indians’ New Year in 2011. Until 1957, there were thirty different calendars followed in different parts of India causing great confusion. Government of India established Calendar Reform Committee in 1957, which decided one calendar as national calendar.

I do not celebrate Chinese New Year, but I celebrate a Indian Festival called Divali which means festival of lights. I have a party where we play a game where you have to throw these pops which pop when the hit the ground. The also get hold the small one foot stick type of thing which if you light sends a blast of colorful sparks. There is also another thing where you put it on the ground and then you light it and it shoots out colorful sparks up to 6 feet high! My favorite thing is the twizzelers. You light them and the they spin around and around and light up.

Yes. In China, days are one day after, like on Wednesday, it's Thursday. So I celebrated Chinese New Year on Wednesday. I invited my cousin's family and we ate hotpot. Then we turned on the T.V to watch the ceremony. We did that until 10:00. I received 5 red enveloped and each had money, though I do not want to share how much I received.
NICE POST!!!
